Food pairing

Pairing food to increase nutrition density of meals is a thing you will learn to master with experience and a thorough understanding of micronutrients interaction in the body. Let us put it that way, some vitamins and minerals are not easily absorbed in the body due to some competition that happens at the receptor doors between molecules that resemble each other such as calcium,magnesium ,iron and zinc.

Eating vegetables with fat allows a better absorption of beta carotene,an antioxidants found in most colored veggies which is a precursor of vitamin A.For vegetarian ,eating tofu with bell pepper which is also loaded with vitamin C does the trick.

Iron absorption for example is increased when ingesting vitamin C rich foods such as citrus fruits and broccoli.

Adding garlic and onion to whole grains makes zinc and iron absorption more bioavailable.

Vitamin D is important for calcium absorption in the body so pairing calcium rich food with vitamin D is essential ex:kale and fatty fish.

Avocado fat will also enhance the carotenoid absorption in tomatoes,so avocado and tomato salad is a good choice.

peanut butter and banana is a very good choice for a post workout treat as it is perfect for muscle recovery.

Turmeric and bell pepper also have mood enhancing properties as piperine found in pepper pairs with turmeric to boost your mood.

Subway is one of the oldest chains that customizes sandwiches, it was bullied by low carb dieters so it included some salads to fit everyone’s need. There was even the Subway diet at one point that helped people lose weight by eating sandwiches everyday.This phenomenon is not surprising because a sandwich has carbohydrates (whole wheat bread),proteins (chicken breast) and fat (avocados ) along with veggies (tomatoes and lettuce) which is a balanced meal.

The problem occurs in case of bad topping choices such as heavy dressings and fried chicken.

Nutrition facts

People are all about checking nutrition facts and labels. Wholesome foods do not contain nutrition facts as they are fresh and home made. Some people have no choice but to buy packaged food because of lack of time… I would recommend preparing meals ahead and freezing them however if for some reason it can’t be done, reading food labels properly is a must.

KC at the mall

Shopping at the mall can be part of an exercise routine when you walk About 20 minutes without stopping every minute. When arriving at the mall aim first at localizing the shops you want to visit  by a quick 15 minutes tour. If the mall happens to be next to your home go there by walk or park your car far from the entrance ,yes FAR FROM THE ENTRANCE (which is the complete opposite of what you usually do) to have at least a 5 minutes walk back and forth in addition to the steps inside the mall.A pedometer will also help to count your steps to ensure you are not having a sedentary lifestyle.
